The Punjab Police have arrested two men accused of murdering Italy-based Malkit Singh in Raja Sansi, Amritsar, in what authorities described as a major breakthrough against organised crime. Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said on Saturday that the suspects — identified as Bikramjit Singh, also known as Bikram, and Karan — were taken into custody by Amritsar Rural Police.

According to the DGP, Bikramjit Singh is linked to the banned Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) and has a history of criminal activity, including cases under the Explosives Act, Attempt to Murder, and the Arms Act. He was also allegedly involved in the 2018 grenade attack on a religious site in Raja Sansi.

Preliminary investigations suggest that, acting on the directions of his foreign handlers, Bikramjit smuggled illegal weapons from across the border to execute high-profile crimes in Punjab. The Police have recovered four pistols and one revolver — including two foreign-made firearms — along with live cartridges.

The DGP  further said  investigations are underway to uncover the wider network, including its backward and forward linkages. The Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to dismantling organised crime and terror networks operating in the state.
