Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, inaugurated the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Support Services Unit (SSU) at the ANTF headquarters on Thursday, marking a significant enhancement in the state’s efforts to combat drug trafficking. The state-of-the-art unit is equipped with advanced technology and intelligence capabilities to analyze drug-related data, financial transactions, and trafficking patterns, strengthening the ANTF’s ability to fight narcotics with precision.
The inauguration was attended by Special DGP ANTF Kuldeep Singh, Special DGP Internal Security RN Dhoke, ADGP ANTF Nilabh Kishore, and ADGP Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Promod Ban. DGP Yadav highlighted the SSU’s role in supporting the operational efficiency of ANTF, noting the unit’s modern infrastructure and upgraded office facilities. The Support Services Unit was established at a cost of Rs 1.28 crores, following the launch of the ANTF’s Intelligence and Technical Unit (SITU) earlier this year, which was funded with Rs 11 crores.
Yadav emphasized that these developments are part of Punjab’s broader strategy to combat the narcotics crisis, further supported by a Rs 14.6 crore budget allocation announced by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann in April. Of this, Rs 11 crores were designated for technical infrastructure upgrades, with Rs 3 crores for enhancing physical facilities.
The introduction of these cutting-edge resources, including specialized data analysis tools and improved communication systems, is expected to significantly bolster the ANTF’s ongoing operations in tackling Punjab’s growing drug problem.
