Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal have launched a statewide awareness campaign against drug abuse, calling on thousands of young people to take an oath to eliminate the crisis. “This is a decisive battle, and we pledge to rid Punjab of this scourge,” Mann said, addressing a rally before the march. He warned that his government would not allow drug smugglers to thrive at the cost of human lives and pledged to dismantle supply networks and jail key figures in the trade.
For the first time, the Punjab government has been confiscating and demolishing properties linked to drug traffickers in an attempt to deter others. Mann accused previous administrations of neglecting the issue, allowing drugs to infiltrate society deeply. However, he expressed confidence that under Kejriwal’s guidance, Punjab could achieve a breakthrough similar to reforms in Delhi.
Mann called for a collective effort in the fight against drugs, emphasizing that the police alone could not win this battle. He highlighted growing community participation, with villages passing anti-drug resolutions and residents using a government WhatsApp helpline (9779100200) to report smugglers anonymously.
The Chief Minister also praised Punjab Police for its role in combating drug networks, urging the public to actively support the fight. “It is time for every citizen to stand up against drug peddlers who are destroying generations for profit,” he said, calling on people to join the movement to make Punjab drug-free.
