Chandigarh, December 5
The Punjab State Election Commission (SEC) is set to announce general elections for five municipal corporations—Amritsar, Jalandhar, Phagwara, Ludhiana, and Patiala—along with elections for 44 municipal committees and nagar panchayats. By-elections for wards of various municipalities and corporations will also be held as part of the electoral exercise. Providing details, Punjab State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhuri said that aspirants wishing to file nominations must submit specific documents. These include the nomination paper in Form 20, an affidavit in Annexure-II, and details of moveable and immoveable assets, pending court cases (if any), educational qualifications, and liabilities. All documents must be duly attested by an Oath Commissioner, Executive Magistrate of 1st Class, or Notary Public. He added that the candidates must also submit a Certificate of Scheduled Caste (SC) or Backward Class (BC), if applicable. Those contesting on a political party ticket are required to furnish a sponsorship certificate from the authorized signatory of the party.
The SEC has made specimens of nomination forms, affidavits, and sponsorship forms available for download on its official website (https://sec.punjab.gov.in). These documents are also accessible from the offices of designated Returning Officers. The commission has urged candidates to ensure their documents are complete and accurate before submission to avoid complications during the nomination process.
