Protesting farmer commits suicide

A 55-year-old farmer, Resham Singh from Pahuwind in Tarn Taran district committed suicide by consuming poison at the Shambhu border protest site. Resham Singh was taken to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala but could not be saved. This is the second such incident at the Shambhu border, following the death of farmer Ranjodh Singh on December 18, according to media reports. Meanwhile, 70-year-old farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal continues his fast-unto-death protest at the Khanauri border. Dallewal has been on hunger strike since November 26, highlighting the plight of farmers and their demands for MSP guarantees on crops.
