India has placed Manipur under President’s Rule after Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned, days before the Congress was set to introduce a no-confidence motion against his government.

A statement from President Droupadi Murmu’s office cited a report from the Governor, stating that governance in the state could no longer function in accordance with the Constitution. The decision follows months of ethnic violence and political turmoil in the northeastern state.
