Dominica will present its highest national honour, the Dominica Award of Honour, to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the upcoming India-CARICOM Summit in Guyana. The award, scheduled for presentation during the summit from November 19 to 21, 2024, recognizes Modi’s significant contributions to Dominica during the COVID-19 pandemic and his efforts to strengthen ties between the two nations.

The Commonwealth of Dominica’s official statement confirmed that President Sylvanie Burton will confer the award on Modi in acknowledgment of India’s support to Dominica in various sectors, including healthcare, education, and technology, under Modi’s leadership. The award also highlights Modi’s commitment to climate resilience and sustainable development on the global stage.
Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit expressed gratitude for Modi’s support, particularly during the pandemic when India supplied 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to Dominica in February 2021. The gesture enabled Dominica to assist neighboring Caribbean nations in their vaccination efforts.
Skerrit emphasized that the award symbolizes Dominica’s appreciation for Modi’s solidarity with the Caribbean, noting the importance of further strengthening bilateral relations.
“In accepting the offer of award, Modi underscored the importance of global collaboration in tackling challenges like climate change and geopolitical tensions, reaffirming India’s commitment to working alongside Dominica and the broader Caribbean region,” the statement issued by Dominica said.
The India-CARICOM Summit will provide a platform for leaders to discuss shared priorities and explore new avenues for cooperation.
