PM reiterated India’s strong commitment to economic development of Bhutan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to Bhutan’s economic development as he hosted Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck in New Delhi on Tuesday. During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended during his state visit to Bhutan in March 2024. Both leaders reviewed the strong bilateral relationship, which spans development cooperation, clean energy, trade, space technology, and cultural exchanges.

The leaders discussed progress on the Gelephu Mindfulness City project, a transformative initiative led by King Wangchuck aimed at enhancing Bhutan’s development and fostering stronger ties with India’s border regions.

Modi emphasized India’s commitment to Bhutan’s growth, highlighting a twofold increase in India’s development assistance to Bhutan under its 13th Five-Year Plan. King Wangchuck expressed deep appreciation for India’s steadfast support in Bhutan’s quest for happiness and progress.

Following the meeting, Modi hosted a lunch to honor the royal couple. The visit underscored the tradition of high-level engagement, reflecting mutual trust and the enduring partnership between the two nations.
