Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra has died at 94 in New Delhi on Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Malhotra’s residence to pay tributes and offer condolences to his family. In a post on X, Modi said Malhotra’s contribution to Delhi’s development and to strengthening the party would “be forever remembered”. “Stalwarts like Prof Vijay Kumar Malhotra have a special place in the history of the Jana Sangh and BJP,” the Prime Minister said. Home Minister Amit Shah called him a “seasoned parliamentarian” respected for his knowledge of the Constitution, while Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said his life would remain “a source of inspiration” for party workers. Malhotra, a long-time face of the Jana Sangh and later the BJP in Delhi, was regarded as one of the architects of the party’s growth in the capital.
