Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday celebrated the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) landmark victory in Delhi after 27 years, invoking “Yamuna Maiya Ki Jai” while addressing party workers at the BJP headquarters. Modi vowed to restore the Yamuna River, reviving a controversy between the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over pollution levels. “I pledged during the campaign that we will make Yamuna the pride of Delhi,” he said.
Calling the victory a mandate for development, Modi said Delhi had rejected “AAP-da,” a reference to AAP’s rule, and chosen stability. He accused AAP of governance failures, saying BJP would prioritize infrastructure, mobility, and opportunities for the youth.
Slamming AAP for corruption, Modi alleged its leaders had betrayed the anti-corruption movement that brought them to power. He promised a thorough probe into financial irregularities. “Every corruption link will be investigated. This is Modi’s Guarantee,” he declared.
Modi also criticized Congress, calling it a “parasitic party” that weakens allies. He accused it of adopting Urban Naxal ideology and undermining national interests.
Encouraging youth participation in politics, Modi said fresh leadership was essential for a developed India. He concluded by promising rapid transformation in Delhi under BJP rule.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 48 of the 70 seats, while AAP secured 22. Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal suffered a major setback, losing the high-profile New Delhi constituency to BJP’s Parvesh Verma by 4,089 votes, rattling the party’s confidence.
