Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday that India “stands with peace”, stressing that New Delhi has never claimed neutrality but has consistently called for an end to conflict. During their talks in New Delhi, Modi said he hoped the world would “move towards peace”, adding that “this is not an era of war”.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged what he described as Putin’s efforts to seek a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine. The Russian President, in turn, assured Modi that Moscow remained committed to finding a negotiated settlement.
Earlier in the day, Putin visited Rajghat where he laid a wreath at the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi. He was received at Rashtrapati Bhavan by President Droupadi Murmu and Modi with full ceremonial honours, including a guard of welcome. The leaders greeted each other before proceeding to formal talks at Hyderabad House.
The visit is part of the annual India–Russia summit, which includes discussions on defence, energy and regional security.
