Uttarkashi, August 5

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed deep concern and condolences over the flash floods that struck the Dharali area near Harsil in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, after a massive cloudburst left at least four people dead and dozens missing. “I express my condolences to those affected by the tragedy in Dharali, Uttarkashi. I also pray for the safety and well-being of all victims,” Modi said in a post in Hindi on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He added that he had spoken to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and taken stock of the situation.

The Prime Minister assured that rescue and relief efforts were being conducted under the supervision of the state government, and that no effort was being spared to ensure aid reaches those in need.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also posted on X, confirming he had spoken with the Chief Minister. He said three teams of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) had been deployed to the affected site, along with four National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams en route to assist in rescue operations.

The flash floods were triggered by a cloudburst that washed away parts of the village, leaving scores missing and many homes damaged or destroyed. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing under challenging weather conditions.
