Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Amman on a visit to Jordan, where he was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the airport. In a gesture highlighting the close ties between the two countries, the Prime Minister was received by his Jordanian counterpart, Dr Jafar Hassan, on arrival, officials said. The visit to Jordan marks the first leg of Modi’s three-nation tour, which will also take him to Ethiopia and Oman. This is the first full bilateral visit by an Indian prime minister to Jordan in 37 years and coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Officials said the visit is expected to focus on strengthening political, economic and strategic cooperation between India and Jordan.
