Rekha Gupta was sworn in as Delhi’s Chief Minister on Thursday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing confidence in her ability to drive the capital’s development. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Modi congratulated Gupta and highlighted her political journey from student activism to the chief ministership. “Congratulations to Rekha Gupta Ji on taking oath as Delhi’s Chief Minister. She has risen from the grassroots, being active in campus politics, state organisation, municipal administration, and now as an MLA and Chief Minister. I am confident she will work for Delhi’s development with full vigour. My best wishes to her for a fruitful tenure,” Modi wrote.

Gupta, a long-time BJP leader with roots in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), took the oath in the presence of senior BJP leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah. She became the fourth woman to hold the post in Delhi, following Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit, and Atishi.

Her cabinet includes key BJP leaders Parvesh Verma (New Delhi), Manjinder Singh Sirsa (Rajouri Garden), Ravindra Kumar Indraj (Bawana), Kapil Mishra (Karawal Nagar), Ashish Sood (Janakpuri), and Pankaj Kumar Singh (Vikaspuri). Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also extended his best wishes, stating: “I heartily congratulate Rekha Gupta Ji and the new cabinet on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Modi and your leadership, the capital will establish new dimensions of development. Best wishes for your tenure.”

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami echoed similar sentiments, adding, “I have full faith that under the able guidance of the Honorable Prime Minister and your leadership, Delhi will restore its glory.” Gupta’s elevation marks a strategic shift for the BJP in Delhi, with the party aiming to strengthen its foothold in the national capital. Her tenure is expected to focus on urban infrastructure, governance reforms, and party consolidation ahead of future electoral battles.
