Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday issued a strong appeal for global solidarity against terrorism during the Outreach Session of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, stating that the recent terror attack in Pahalgam was not just an attack on India, but an assault on all humanity.

Speaking to world leaders, Modi thanked the international community for standing with India in its fight against terrorism, but warned against double standards and inaction. “Should countries recognise the threat of terrorism only when they themselves become victims?” he asked pointedly. “How can perpetrators and victims ever be equated? Will international institutions remain mute spectators?”

He called for decisive global action against nations that support or harbour terror networks, insisting that such support should never be rewarded.

Addressing the G7 Session on ‘Energy Security: diversification, technology and infrastructure to ensure access and affordability’, Modi turned his focus to climate resilience, green innovation and the strategic use of artificial intelligence.

Marking 50 years of the G7,  he thanked Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney for the invitation and noted energy security as a challenge that will define the future. Emphasising India’s “4A” approach — availability, accessibility, affordability and acceptability — Modi highlighted how the world’s fastest-growing major economy had achieved its Paris Agreement goals ahead of schedule.

Citing India’s climate leadership, he listed major international initiatives launched by New Delhi — including the International Solar Alliance, Mission LiFE, the Global Biofuels Alliance and One Sun-One World-One Grid — calling on the international community to deepen collaboration on sustainable development.

He also used the moment to spotlight the plight of the Global South. “Uncertainty and conflict across regions are crippling developing economies,” he said. “India has taken it upon itself to be the voice of the Global South, ensuring their priorities and perspectives are not ignored.”

Turning to the intersection of technology, energy and artificial intelligence, Modi cautioned that while AI is revolutionising innovation and efficiency, it is also energy-intensive. He proposed a cooperative international strategy to align AI advancement with clean and sustainable energy goals.

“India’s human-centric approach to technology focuses on tangible benefits for ordinary people,” he said, arguing that responsible data use, particularly in a diverse country like India, is essential to effective AI. He also urged nations to secure supply chains of critical minerals, vital for both clean energy and digital transformation.

“Technology must put people and the planet at the centre,” Modi said. “Only through shared values and closer international cooperation can we realise a sustainable, inclusive future.”
