Kangra, September 9
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced financial assistance of ₹1,500 crore for Himachal Pradesh after reviewing the damage caused by floods, cloudbursts and landslides in the state. Prime Minister Modi, who visited the state on Tuesday, first conducted an aerial survey of affected areas before holding a review meeting in Kangra. He said the Centre would also advance the release of the second instalment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and provide support through schemes such as PM Kisan Samman Nidhi.
Calling for a “multi-dimensional approach” to restore normal life, the Prime Minister outlined measures including rebuilding homes under the PM Awas Yojana, repairing national highways, restoring schools, providing aid under the PM’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), and distributing mini kits for livestock.
He added that farmers without power connections would receive additional assistance, while damaged houses and schools would be geotagged for faster delivery of aid. Water harvesting structures would also be built to improve groundwater levels and support better resource management.
The Union Government has already dispatched inter-ministerial teams to assess the scale of destruction, and Modi said further relief would follow their report. The prime minister also met families affected by the disaster, expressing condolences to those who had lost loved ones. He pledged that the Centre would continue working closely with the state government to provide all possible assistance.
