Historian and author Rizwan Kadri, a member of the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library Society, has asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to facilitate the return of 51 boxes of historical documents withdrawn from the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) in 2008.

Kadri told reporters that in September 2024, he had written to Sonia Gandhi requesting access to the boxes, which reportedly contain letters and documents of significant historical value, including correspondence from Jayaprakash Narayan, Babu Jagjivan Ram, and Edwina Mountbatten. However, Kadri said he received no response.

“Since there was no reply, I have now written to Rahul Gandhi, urging him to help recover these records. As Leader of the Opposition, we hope he will ensure they are made available for researchers,” Kadri said.

The historian emphasized that access to these materials is vital for understanding critical aspects of India’s history. Kadri’s appeal comes amid ongoing efforts to enhance the collection and accessibility of archival materials at the restructured Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library.
