Prof Vishali Gupta of the Advanced Eye Centre at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER) has been conferred the Gold Medal of the International Uveitis Study Group (IUSG), a highly selective global body of around 150 experts. The award, considered one of the most competitive distinctions in the field, is presented once every four years to a researcher judged to have made exceptional contributions to the understanding and treatment of uveitis. It is decided through a two-stage voting process involving all IUSG members.

Prof Gupta will formally receive the medal and deliver the Gold Medal Lecture at the group’s meeting in Tübingen, Germany, in July 2026. The recognition is being described as historic, marking the first time an Indian-trained and India-based clinician-scientist has been selected for the honour since the group was established.

Prof Gupta thanked her mentor, Prof Amod Gupta, for his guidance, and acknowledged PGIMER for shaping her academic career and providing the support that helped her work gain international visibility.
