A doctor at Shimla’s Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) has been suspended pending further orders following allegations that he assaulted a patient inside the hospital, officials said. The action was taken after the Health Department received a report from an internal committee constituted by the hospital administration to examine the incident. IGMC Medical Superintendent Dr Rahul Rao said the committee completed its preliminary inquiry and submitted its findings to the government, after which the decision to suspend the doctor was taken. He added that a high-level inquiry committee will now be formed to determine the next course of action. Until further orders, the suspended doctor has been attached to the Directorate of Medical Education headquarters.

After a video showing a doctor allegedly assaulting a patient went viral, the incident sparked concern at the state’s largest government hospital, prompting calls for strict action and accountability.
