Kangra, May 29

Himachal Pradesh Police have arrested a 20-year-old youth accused of spying for Pakistan. The suspect, identified as Abhishek Bhardwaj, was detained from his home in Sukhahar village in Dehra of Kangra district. He was produced before a local court and remanded to five days of police custody.

The Police say Bhardwaj, a college dropout, was allegedly transmitting sensitive information to agents across the border through online platforms. He reportedly had over 3,000 Facebook friends, many of whom were linked to Pakistan, according to initial findings. The Kangra police said said the arrest was part of intensified surveillance measures following the launch of Operation Sindoor, a national counter-terror campaign initiated after a recent militant attack in Jammu and Kashmir. Sharing details, the police said that the sensitive documents and digital evidence were recovered from his mobile phone and these materials have been sent for forensic analysis. The Police had been monitoring Bhardwaj for several days after receiving intelligence inputs and a case was registered under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against him,” the police official said.
