Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor to lead one of seven all-party delegations travelling to global capitals to represent India’s position on cross-border terrorism and recent geopolitical developments, despite his name being absent from the Congress party’s own list of suggested representatives.

Shashi Tharoor confirmed his acceptance of the role in a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying he was “honoured by the invitation of the Government of India” to lead an all-party delegation to five key capitals. “When national interest is involved, and my services are required, I will not be found wanting,” he wrote, emphasising his commitment to representing the country on critical global issues.

The delegations are part of India’s diplomatic outreach under the umbrella of “Operation Sindoor” — a strategic initiative aimed at reinforcing India’s zero-tolerance stance on terrorism. The initiative comes amid growing concern over cross-border threats and the need for unified messaging on the global stage.

According to an official government statement, Members of Parliament from across the political spectrum — including BJP, Congress, DMK, NCP, JDU, and Shiv Sena — will spearhead these international visits. Each delegation will travel to one or more influential capitals, including UN Security Council member states.

The appointed leaders of the seven delegations are:

  1. Shashi Tharoor (Congress)
  2. Ravi Shankar Prasad (BJP)
  3. Sanjay Kumar Jha (JDU)
  4. Baijayant Panda (BJP)
  5. Kanimozhi Karunanidhi (DMK)
  6. Supriya Sule (NCP)
  7. Shrikant Eknath Shinde (Shiv Sena)
