In a major intelligence-led operation amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a drug-free state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Counter Intelligence Ferozepur has busted a cross-border drug cartel with the arrest of its one operative and recovered 5 kg heroin from his possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav here on Tuesday. The arrested accused has been identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gora, a resident of village Habib Wala in Ferozepur. Apart from recovering 5 kg heroin, police teams have also impounded his Hero Splender Plus Motorcycle (PB-05-AU-0504), which he was riding.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has indicated that the consignment was smuggled from across the border by Pakistan-based smugglers. Further investigation is underway to trace backward and forward linkages in this case to unravel the entire network, he said. Sharing operational details, AIG CI Ferozepur Gursewak Singh Brar said that acting upon reliable inputs, the Police team of CI Ferozepur has carried out secret operation in Ferozepur area, during which, suspect Gurpreet alias Gora was apprehended from link road Basti Khushal Singh Wala in village Hassan Dhut in Ferozepur.
The AIG said that the arrested accused was going to supply this consignment to local smuggler on the direction of Pak-based smuggler. The identity of local smuggler and role of the Pak based smuggler, along with its broader network, are under comprehensive investigation, he added. In this regard, a case has been registered under section 21-C of the NDPS Act at Police Station SSOC Fazilka on October 28.
