Patiala, April 8

The protest by nursing staff over the demand for a Rs 4,600 grade pay entered its 14th day on Wednesday across three major government medical institutions in Punjab.

At Rajindra Hospital in Patiala, staff nurses took out a foot march and staged a demonstration in support of their demand. Protesters said they were seeking the implementation of a demand that the government had already accepted.

The nursing staff alleged that, despite repeated efforts and discussions, the government had failed to fulfil its commitment regarding grade pay.

Speaking during the protest, staff nurse Kirandeep Kaur said the employees had continuously pursued the matter and had also reached an agreement with the government. However, she alleged that the government later reneged on its promise.

She said the protest had now entered its 14th day, but no concrete step had been taken by the government to address the issue.

The protesting staff warned that if the government did not take further action on the demand for grade pay, the agitation would be intensified in the coming days.
