National Security Adviser Ajit Doval has called on the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) to take decisive and unified action against terrorist groups proscribed by the United Nations, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Al-Qaeda and ISIS. Speaking at the SCO NSAs’ meeting in Beijing on Tuesday, Doval warned against adopting double standards in the global fight against terrorism and called for the dismantling of terrorist ecosystems and their proxies. “Any act of terror, including cross-border terrorism, is a crime against humanity,” he said.
He raised concern over the continuing threat posed by UN-designated terrorist organisations and cited the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 Indian and Nepalese civilians were killed and several others injured by The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of LeT. Victims were reportedly segregated by religion before being executed.
In response to the attack, India launched Operation Sindoor, which Doval described as a “measured and non-escalatory” mission aimed at dismantling the infrastructure of terror and preventing future infiltration.
Calling for accountability, Doval urged SCO member states to ensure perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of cross-border terror are brought to justice. He reiterated India’s firm stance that collective responsibility is key to defeating terrorism in all its forms.
India has increasingly used multilateral platforms like the SCO to spotlight its concerns about terrorism emanating from across its borders, without directly naming Pakistan in this instance.
The Beijing meeting brought together top security officials from SCO member states to discuss regional security, counter-terrorism strategies and cooperation among intelligence agencies.
