The National Health Mission (NHM) Punjab has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Bank to provide cashless medical insurance to around 8,000 health staff members, including medical and paramedical workers, in a move aimed at ensuring their welfare, officials announced on Tuesday.

The MoU, signed by Mission Director of NHM Punjab Ghanshyam Thori and Indian Bank Field General Manager Sandeep Kumar Goshal, includes a comprehensive medical insurance package offering coverage of up to ₹2 lakh per individual. In addition, the package will provide Group Accidental Death Insurance coverage of up to ₹40 lakh for each employee.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh emphasized that this initiative is designed to address the risks health workers face while treating infectious diseases and other health challenges. The insurance plan is expected to ease the financial burden on NHM employees seeking medical treatment and hospitalization.

The total expenditure for the insurance scheme will amount to ₹4 crore annually, with Indian Bank covering the entire cost, amounting to ₹12 crore over three years. This initiative is part of the state government’s broader efforts to enhance the welfare of health staff and improve overall healthcare delivery across Punjab.

The collaboration also underscores the Punjab government’s commitment to supporting its workforce and ensuring a healthier, more productive environment for those on the frontlines of healthcare.
