Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has called on National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets to work towards fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047, describing them as the country’s valuable assets. Speaking at the NCC Republic Day Camp in Delhi Cantt on January on Monday emphasized that the qualities of leadership, discipline, ambition, and patriotism fostered in NCC cadets contribute significantly to national development.
“Prime Minister Modi, an ex-NCC cadet, has committed to making India a developed nation by 2047. It is the responsibility of all NCC cadets to help realise this dream,” Rajnath Singh said, stressing that a developed India means the progress of its 1.4 billion people, united despite diversity.
He lauded the cadets’ commitment and discipline, noting that their collective energy and enthusiasm represented India’s bright future. Singh also reflected on how India’s journey to independence was shared by several nations, but those that upheld discipline and national unity are now developing, unlike others who are struggling.
Singh also highlighted Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s bravery during the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, using his sacrifice as an example of true leadership. “Leadership is not about titles; it’s about leading from the front, just like Major Unnikrishnan did,” Singh said. He urged cadets to adapt to changing circumstances and focus on skill development to address future challenges. “A ‘never give up’ attitude is key to success,” he added.
Rajnath Singh concluded by encouraging cadets to dream big, stay humble, and work towards their goals, quoting former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s words: “No one becomes great with a small heart, and no one stands strong with a broken spirit.” The event included a ‘Guard of Honour’, an Investiture Ceremony where outstanding cadets were awarded the Raksha Mantri Padak and Commendation Cards, and cultural performances. Rajnath Singh also visited the Flag Area, where cadets showcased displays on social issues, and the ‘Idea & Innovation’ section, where cadets presented creative projects.
