Punjab’s Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian has held talks with an Israeli diplomat to explore the use of advanced technologies in water conservation and sewage wastewater recycling, as the state looks to strengthen urban infrastructure amid rising demand for civic services. The meeting took place on Monday in Chandigarh with Fares Saeb, Minister and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Israel.

Officials said discussions focused on adopting Israel’s globally recognised expertise in efficient water management, reuse of treated wastewater and modern sewerage systems, particularly for application in Punjab’s urban areas. Mundian said sustainable water use and recycling of treated sewage are key priorities for the state government in the context of rapid urbanisation.

Saeb outlined Israel’s experience in maximising water efficiency through technology-driven solutions, including large-scale reuse of treated wastewater and smart urban infrastructure. Both sides discussed possible technical cooperation, knowledge sharing and future engagement to assess the practical implementation of such systems in Punjab’s cities.

The Israeli diplomat also invited Mundian to visit Israel to see the technologies in operation and explore avenues for deeper collaboration. The minister welcomed the invitation and said he would plan a visit to study the solutions for potential adoption in Punjab. Senior officials, including Principal Secretary (Housing and Urban Development) Vikas Garg, were present at the meeting.
