The US Supreme Court has dismissed the final appeal of Tahawwur Rana, a Canadian national of Pakistani origin, paving the way for his extradition to India in connection with the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Rana, 64, currently held in Los Angeles, filed a petition for review on November 13, seeking to overturn lower court rulings. The court rejected the plea on January 21, marking the end of his legal options in the United States, the news outlet NDTV reported.

US Solicitor General Elizabeth B. Prelogar argued against the petition, stating that Rana had no grounds for relief from extradition. India seeks Rana’s extradition to face trial for his alleged role in the deadly attacks that left over 170 people dead. Rana claimed he was acquitted in a Chicago court on related charges, arguing that India’s case was based on the same conduct. However, the news outlet said that US courts upheld the Indian government’s request for his extradition.
