The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has secured a sweeping victory in the Bihar assembly elections, with the final tally placing the coalition at 202 of the state’s 243 seats. The opposition Mahagathbandhan projected with 35 seats, marking one of its weakest performances in recent years.

The scale of the victory has been described by supporters as a decisive endorsement of the alliance between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who campaigned jointly and repeatedly framed the election as a choice between development and what they termed “jungle raj politics”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed the National Democratic Alliance’s victory in the Bihar assembly elections as a “historic and unparalleled mandate”, saying voters endorsed the coalition’s record on development and governance.

In a series of statements following the results, Modi said the outcome reflected the public’s support for good governance, social justice and what he described as a pro-people agenda. “Gratitude to each and every person of Bihar for blessing the NDA with this victory,” he said, adding that the mandate gives the alliance “renewed strength” to continue its work in the state.

Modi credited the NDA’s win to its “all-round development” efforts in Bihar, saying voters backed the coalition on the basis of its track record and future vision. He congratulated Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and alliance partners Chirag Paswan, Jitan Ram Manjhi and Upendra Kushwaha for what he termed an “unparalleled victory”.

Looking ahead, the Prime Minister said the government would intensify efforts to improve infrastructure, expand opportunities and promote cultural initiatives in the state. He said particular focus would be placed on ensuring that Bihar’s youth and women gain greater prospects for prosperity.

Home Minister Amit Shah said the mandate reflected public confidence in the NDA’s vision for a “Developed Bihar”. He argued that the result showed voters had rejected “appeasement politics”, insisting that the coalition’s performance-led governance had resonated with the electorate.

In a message on X, Shah congratulated PM Modi, Nitish Kumar and workers across the alliance, praising BJP cadres “from the booth level to the state level” for contributing to the landslide. He also highlighted the strong turnout among women voters, saying “our mothers and sisters” had played a central role in the outcome.

Shah claimed the results validated the government’s stance on issues such as development, welfare measures and women’s safety. He said the public had supported the NDA’s approach towards “infiltrators” and those he described as their “sympathisers”, accusing the opposition of shielding them for electoral gain.

Calling the verdict a reaffirmation of the drive for a modern and secure Bihar, he credited Modi’s leadership over the past 11 years and Nitish Kumar’s efforts in “steering the state away from jungle raj”, saying the mandate reflected a clear vote for continuity.
