Chandigarh/Ludhiana/Jalandhar, September 18
Punjab Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal and Revenue Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian inspected desilting operations on the Satluj river in Ludhiana district on Thursday. The ministers ordered immediate deployment of more machinery, including floating excavators and JCBs, to clear heavy silt deposits and restore the river to its natural course. Officials said advanced equipment had already been pressed into service to divert the water flow.
They stressed that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the state administration is working “round the clock” to support flood-affected families. A special girdawari (loss assessment survey) is under way, with compensation to be released within 45 days.
Revenue Minister Mundian also visited Sahibana village, personally donating ₹50,000 from his salary to a resident for urgent roof repairs and promising further state support.
In Jalandhar, Minister Goyal reviewed strengthening works on the Dhussi Bundh at Mandala Chhana, where flood protection and relief efforts are being carried out with the help of the Army, local volunteers, and the Drainage Department.
He said the state had ensured uninterrupted supplies of resources and manpower, and praised the “relentless efforts” of the Army, SDRF, administration and local community. Further reinforcement of the bundh will begin once water levels fall, he added.
