Abohar, May 27

Punjab’s Local Government Minister Dr Ravjot Singh issued a show-cause notice to a senior municipal engineer during a surprise early morning inspection of Abohar city on Monday, citing negligence in addressing basic civic issues.

The minister visited several city wards, including Ghumiar Mohalla, Krishna Nagar, and Azimgarh, as part of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s directive to review public service delivery and connect directly with residents.

In Ghumiar Mohalla, locals complained of adulterated drinking water. Dr Singh immediately directed that the city’s Superintendent Engineer be served a notice for failing to resolve the issue. “If I can come to the people’s doorstep, so can the officers,” he said, urging municipal officials to regularly tour the areas under their charge.

Inspecting the city’s garbage dump, he ordered the removal of old waste and enforcement of waste segregation rules. At Indira Nagar Stadium, the minister instructed authorities to improve existing facilities and complete a long-pending community hall.

Dr Singh also stopped by the city’s vegetable market to speak with vendors about sanitation and infrastructure. In Azimgarh, he instructed electricity department staff to fix broken poles and hanging wires without delay.

Speaking to the press, he criticised previous state governments for what he called “unplanned projects” that had delayed the city’s development. He said the current administration had no shortage of funds and was committed to completing pending civic work.

He added that officials were considering the construction of additional water tanks to address the city’s water issues.

Former MLA Arun Narang, who joined the visit, said the Punjab government was committed to Abohar’s growth and that the minister’s visit reflected this resolve.
