Chandigarh, August 28

The Returning Officer-cum-SDM of Hisar has issued notices to state Health Minister Kamal Gupta and Fatehabad MLA Dura Ram for allegedly violating the model code of conduct. Gupta, a BJP MLA from the Hisar Assembly constituency, and Dura Ram, an MLA from Fatehabad, are accused of breaching election guidelines during a religious event held at the Bishnoi Mandir in Hisar on August 26.

“The notice highlighted that during the program, the two leaders used the temple as a platform for electoral appeals, which is prohibited by the Election Commission of India (ECI). The ECI’s guidelines explicitly state that places of worship, such as mosques, temples, and churches, must not be used for election propaganda,” reported The Tribune.

“I strongly encourage you to vote for the BJP candidates in these constituencies, supporting leaders like Nayab Saini, who could once again serve as Chief Minister,” Dura Ram said in his speech during the function, according to the news outlet.
