Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has alleged that the Biden administration pressured Facebook to remove memes and truthful posts about COVID-19 and vaccines, UK-based news outlet The Telegraph reported. Speaking on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Zuckerberg described the government’s efforts as “brutal,” claiming White House officials would call Facebook’s team, “scream and curse,” and demand the removal of posts, even if they contained accurate information. “Basically, it just got to this point where we were like, no, we’re not going to take down things that are true,” Zuckerberg said. He added that the White House pressured Facebook to suppress content discussing vaccine side effects.
In a separate report by The Hill, Meta announced plans to cut its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) team, citing shifts in the U.S. “legal and policy landscape.” The move comes shortly before President-elect Donald Trump takes office.
Zuckerberg’s relationship with Trump has reportedly improved, with the Meta CEO visiting Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort and donating $1 million to his inaugural fund. Zuckerberg referred to the recent election as a “cultural tipping point” towards prioritizing free speech while unveiling Meta’s organizational changes earlier this week.
