Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his greetings to citizens across the country on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, describing the festival as a reflection of India’s rich cultural traditions and shared values. In messages posted on social media on Wednesday, Modi said Makar Sankranti symbolises harmony, prosperity and togetherness, and expressed hope that the sweetness of til and gur would bring happiness and success to people’s lives.
He also invoked the blessings of Surya Dev for the welfare of the nation, noting the spiritual significance of the festival, which marks the sun’s transition into the northern hemisphere.The Prime Minister said the festival is celebrated in different ways across India, in keeping with local customs and traditions, and wished people good health and well-being. Prime Minister Modi also shared a Sanskrit subhashitam invoking Lord Surya, underlining the religious and cultural importance of the occasion.
