The Punjab School Education Department on Friday suspended the principal and dismissed the campus manager of a government school in Ludhiana following Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains’ directive over an incident of corporal punishment involving students.

The principal of Government Senior Secondary School, Jawahar Nagar, and the campus manager were penalized after students arriving late were forced to shift sand and gravel as punishment, Minister Bains said. “This incident came to my notice today, and strict action has been initiated immediately,” Bains said.

Emphasising the importance of student dignity, Bains warned that such behavior by educators would not be tolerated. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and respectful environment in public schools, prioritizing the well-being of students above all. The incident highlights Punjab’s push for stricter accountability and reforms in the education system.
