Punjab’s Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian has intervened to address long-pending demands raised by the state’s veterinary inspectors. During a meeting with a delegation of the Punjab State Veterinary Inspectors Association, led by its president Gurdeep Singh Bassi, at the Punjab Civil Secretariat today, the minister held detailed discussions and assured the representatives that their legitimate demands would be taken up on a priority basis.
The association has been seeking recognition of 18 months’ service as regular service for around 400 veterinary inspectors recruited in 2011, the creation of 87 new posts at the tehsil level, and implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations. Following the assurance, the association announced it would call off its proposed rally in Lambi.
Khudian also directed the Director of Animal Husbandry to fast-track follow-up action on the issues raised. He said efforts would be made to convene an early meeting with Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema to work towards resolving the core demands.
