Ludhiana, March 18

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday dedicated the newly renovated Civil Hospital in Ludhiana to the public, marking a significant milestone in the state government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure.

The transformation of the hospital was made possible through the concerted efforts of the Punjab government and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora. The modernization project aims to enhance healthcare services, improve patient comfort, and ensure a cleaner and more efficient medical environment.

State-of-the-art medical facilities

A key highlight of the renovation is the establishment of a fully modular Orthopedic Operation Theatre, built at a cost of nearly ₹1 crore. Equipped with advanced medical technology and surgical instruments, the facility enables complex orthopedic procedures to be conducted with greater precision and efficiency. The modular design ensures a sterile and infection-controlled environment, promoting better post-operative outcomes.

To further improve patient care, all washrooms in the Outpatient Department (OPD), Emergency Unit, and Inpatient Wards have been upgraded with modern fixtures, anti-slip flooring, and improved drainage systems to maintain the highest hygiene standards.

Infrastructure upgrades

The hospital’s infrastructure has undergone extensive upgrades to provide a safer and more comfortable experience for patients and visitors. Key improvements include:

  • Bedding and hygiene: The supply of 500 high-quality bed sheets to ensure cleanliness and patient comfort.
  • Safe drinking water: Installation of five advanced 80-litre water coolers at strategic locations to provide chilled, purified water.
  • Wall and flooring enhancements: New tiles installed on side-walls up to five feet across the premises to improve aesthetics and maintain hygiene.
  • Structural repairs: Extensive restoration of walls, repair of damaged surfaces, and maintenance of civil works to enhance durability.

To prevent water seepage and structural damage, all terraces have been waterproofed using advanced materials and techniques. Additionally, the hospital’s doors and windows have been systematically repaired, replaced, and repainted.

Modernized accessibility and security measures

For the first time in 12 years, two old lifts have been completely refurbished and brought back into service. Non-functional fans and lights have been replaced with energy-efficient models, and high-mast lighting systems have been repaired to enhance safety at night.

The hospital’s roads, which had fallen into disrepair, have been reconstructed, and high-quality paver blocks have been installed in parking areas to streamline vehicular movement. A newly built 5,000-square-foot waiting shed now provides shelter and comfort for patients and their attendants.

To enhance security, the hospital’s main gate has been structurally reinforced and aesthetically upgraded, while a sturdy cattle trap has been installed at the entrance to prevent stray animals from entering the premises. A rigorous rodent control protocol has also been implemented. The boundary wall has been completely rebuilt to ensure safety and durability.

Commitment to better public healthcare

Speaking at the inauguration, CM Bhagwant Mann emphasized the government’s dedication to strengthening public health services. “The transformation of Ludhiana Civil Hospital is a testament to our commitment to providing quality healthcare to every citizen,” he said.

Arvind Kejriwal reiterated AAP’s focus on healthcare reforms, stating, “A well-equipped and clean hospital is not a luxury but a necessity. We are determined to improve Punjab’s healthcare system, ensuring that everyone receives the medical attention they deserve.”

The Ludhiana Civil Hospital’s renovation is part of a broader initiative to modernize public healthcare facilities across Punjab, aiming to create a more patient-friendly and efficient healthcare system.
