A post-mortem report has revealed that a 33-year-old journalist Mukesh Chandrakar , who was brutally murdered in Chhattisgarh, sustained severe injuries. The report found multiple fractures, including 15 to the head, a broken neck, and four pieces of liver. In a chilling revelation, doctors confirmed that his heart was ripped out, suggesting that more than two people were likely involved in the attack, according to media reports.
Chandrakar, a freelance journalist, had recently reported on a road construction scam, which reportedly led to an investigation into local contractors. Suresh Chandrakar, a contractor, is suspected to be the mastermind behind the murder, unhappy with the journalist’s expose.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Hyderabad arrested the prime suspect, Suresh Chandrakar, who had been on the run since the incident occurred on January 3. His arrest was confirmed by a police official on Monday.
On January 4, the Editors Guild of India called for a swift and thorough investigation, demanding that the authorities bring the perpetrators to justice. The guild emphasized the importance of safeguarding journalists, particularly those working in rural areas, and maintaining a free press in the country. The tragic murder of Chandrakar has raised concerns about the safety of journalists and has underscored the urgent need for improved protection.
