In a major counter-terror breakthrough, Jammu and Kashmir Police have dismantled an inter-state and transnational terror module linked to the banned groups Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH), seizing a staggering 2,900 kilograms of explosive and IED-making material during coordinated raids across multiple states.
Officials said the recovery — which includes large quantities of RDX, chemicals, electronic circuits, timers, and metal sheets — marks one of the largest seizures of its kind in recent years. The material was recovered alongside arms, ammunition, and electronic devices during operations in Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
The police have so far arrested seven individuals, including two medical professionals and a cleric, identified as:
Arif Nisar Dar, Yasir-ul-Ashraf, Maqsood Ahmad Dar, Molvi Irfan Ahmad, Zameer Ahmad Ahanger, Dr Muzammil Ahmad Ganaie, and Dr Adeel.
Investigators said the group formed part of a “white-collar terror ecosystem”, comprising radicalised professionals and students working under the direction of handlers based in Pakistan and other countries. Encrypted communication channels were used to plan operations, move funds, and coordinate logistics.
Funds were allegedly raised through professional and academic networks under the guise of social and charitable causes. The accused are suspected of recruiting new members, procuring weapons, and preparing improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
During searches, police recovered:
• One Chinese Star pistol and one Beretta pistol with ammunition
• One AK-56 rifle and one AK Krinkov rifle
• Approximately 2,900 kg of IED-making material, including explosives, reagents, and components such as wires, remote controls, batteries, and timers
The investigation, launched after JeM posters threatening security forces appeared in Srinagar on 19 October, has expanded to include searches in Srinagar, Anantnag, Ganderbal, and Shopian, as well as Faridabad and Saharanpur, in coordination with Haryana and Uttar Pradesh Police.
Authorities said a financial probe is underway to trace the movement of funds and uncover wider linkages.
A senior police spokesperson described the operation as “a testimony to the diligence and determination” of the investigative team, adding that J&K Police remain committed to stamping out terrorism in all its forms.
