In a move to streamline public services, the Punjab government will construct a state-of-the-art Jal Bhawan in Mohali, where all water supply and sanitation-related services will be provided under one roof. Punjab Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian made the announcement after a review meeting with department officials. The project, aimed at enhancing transparency and convenience, is expected to be completed within two years.
Mundian said the building will bring together all departmental staff, currently spread across various locations, into a single facility. “There is no existing building in Mohali or Chandigarh that houses the entire staff of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department,” he said.
The upcoming Jal Bhawan will include a large auditorium, multiple conference and meeting halls, a crèche, and a rest house, making it a fully integrated administrative complex. Officials have been instructed to maintain high-quality standards during construction. The Architecture Department presented the building’s design during the meeting and confirmed it would comply with Griha and ECBC norms to ensure future cost efficiency.
Principal Secretary Neel Kanth Avhad stated that an initial budget of ₹10 crore has been allocated for 2025–26. If funds are utilised efficiently by the PWD by November or December, the Finance Department may be approached for additional support.
