Jaishankar, Belgian FM discuss trade, clean Energy, defence cooperation

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and Belgium’s Foreign Minister, Maxime Prevot, held wide-ranging discussions at Hyderabad House in New Delhi on Monday, focusing on trade, investment, clean energy, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, digital technology, mobility, and defence.

Jaishankar shared details of the meeting on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying: “A pleasure meeting DPM and FM @prevotmaxime of Belgium this morning in New Delhi. Held comprehensive discussions on advancing our bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, clean energy, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, digital, mobility and defense.”

He added: “Highlighted new opportunities for ‘Make in India, Design in India and Research in India’. Also spoke about furthering our EU and multilateral cooperation, as well as global and regional developments.”

In his inaugural address, Jaishankar said India and Belgium were exploring collaboration in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, clean energy, and research and innovation. He expressed optimism about the visit of Princess Astrid, who is leading an economic delegation of around 360 businesses.“The economic mission will provide an opportunity for them to assess what is happening in India and take advantage of Make in India, designing in India, researching in India, and innovating in India,” Jaishankar said.
