Former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Congress government, accusing it of administrative confusion and failure to maintain law and order. “This government has been in disarray for the last two and a half years. It is clinging to power, not governing,” Jai Ram Thakur said. He pointed to an illegal liquor factory operating in Kala Amb for two years, where over 400,000 fake stickers were reportedly recovered. “Yet no strong action has been taken. Law and order is crumbling,” he added.
Thakur also demanded an investigation into the death of Vimal Negi, raising questions over alleged cover-ups. He criticised the recent decision to stop providing free hospital registration slips and 133 diagnostic tests, which he argued would hit poor patients hardest. Mocking the Chief Minister’s claim of a “sovereign” governance model, Thakur said, “It’s just an excuse to dodge accountability. Ministers and officials are in confusion, decisions are being taken by a select few.” He concluded by branding the state government as a “regime of taxes and debt,” with no clear vision for public welfare.
As the Narendra Modi-led central government completes 11 years in power, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a major outreach campaign across Himachal Pradesh, combining celebration with sharp criticism of the ruling Congress government in the state.
At a joint press conference in Shimla, BJP state president Dr Rajeev Bindal and Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur unveiled a month-long plan of events aimed at highlighting the Modi government’s achievements while accusing the Congress-led state government of mismanagement and policy paralysis. Dr Bindal said the BJP would launch a special campaign from June 9, covering all organisational levels of the party. As part of an environmental initiative, the party plans to plant 11 saplings at each of the state’s 8,009 polling booths amounting to nearly 90,000 trees in total. Workshops at the mandal and booth levels will be conducted by June 20.
‘Marking International Yoga Day on June 21, the BJP will organise 171 anti-drug awareness programmes across Himachal to sensitise youth. On June 25, the party will launch a “Jan Jagran Abhiyan” (Public Awareness Campaign) to commemorate 50 years since the Emergency, which Bindal described as a “black chapter” in India’s democracy,” he said. “The Congress party amended the Constitution to stay in power, stifling democratic voices in 1975,” he said.
