India and Pakistan have exchanged their annual lists of nuclear installations and facilities through diplomatic channels, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday. The exchange took place simultaneously in New Delhi and Islamabad under the Agreement on the Prohibition of Attack against Nuclear Installations and Facilities between India and Pakistan.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the agreement was signed on December 31, 1988 and came into force on January 27 ,1991. It requires both countries to inform each other, every year on January 1, of nuclear installations and facilities covered under the pact. This year’s exchange marks the 35th consecutive instance of the two sides sharing such lists, with the first exchange having taken place on 1 January 1992.
