“The Army is the reason we are safe, and the strength behind the nation’s sovereignty,” Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said as the Indian Army marked its 78th Army Day, paying tribute to soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice for the country.
Speaking at an “At Home” reception organised by the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) at the Nickdrin Officers’ Mess in Shimla, the governor said Army Day was not a ceremonial celebration but a symbol of the courage, valour and dedication of the Indian Army. He stressed that the safety of the country and its people depended on the armed forces, whose greatness, he said, could not be challenged.
Mr Shukla also highlighted the Indian Army’s preparedness to meet emerging security challenges of the 21st century, noting that constant adaptation and readiness were key to national defence.
Addressing the gathering, ARTRAC’s General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Lieutenant General Devendra Sharma, said Army Day was a day to bow in respect to the brave soldiers who devoted their lives to the nation. He said the Indian Army had consistently proved its role as a strong shield of national security, reaffirming its commitment to protecting the country in changing times.
The event was part of a series of Army Day programmes being held across India to honour the service and sacrifices of the armed forces.
