India and Russia have agreed to broaden their joint military exercises, enhancing operational synergy and strategic ties, during the fourth meeting of the Working Group on Military Cooperation under the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military and Military-Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-M&MTC). The meeting, held in Moscow, marked a key step in strengthening the long-standing strategic partnership between the two nations. It was co-chaired by Lieutenant General JP Mathew, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff for India, and Lieutenant General Dylevsky Igor Nikolaevich, Deputy Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces.

Discussions emphasized knowledge-sharing and collaboration in strategic areas, while also identifying new avenues for cooperation to address evolving security challenges. Both sides highlighted the significance of joint exercises like INDRA, AVIA INDRA, and INDRA NAVY, which have been instrumental in refining operational tactics and deepening mutual understanding across land, air, and sea domains. The Declaration on the India-Russia Strategic Partnership, signed in 2000 and upgraded to a Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership in 2010, underscores the importance of these military engagements. The Working Group serves as a crucial platform for reviewing existing initiatives and fostering future collaboration.
