India and Jordan have signed a series of agreements aimed at deepening cooperation across renewable energy, water management, digital public infrastructure and culture, following talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Amman.

The agreements were finalised during Prime Minister Modi’s meeting with the Jordanian monarch at the Al Husseiniya Palace, where he was accorded a ceremonial welcome. The visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Among the key outcomes were memoranda of understanding on technical cooperation in new and renewable energy, collaboration in water resources management and development, and a letter of intent on sharing large-scale digital solutions for population-wide digital transformation. The two sides also renewed their Cultural Exchange Programme for 2025–2029 and agreed on a twinning arrangement between the heritage sites of Petra in Jordan and Ellora in India.

Officials said the MoUs are expected to provide fresh momentum to bilateral ties, particularly in sectors where both countries see long-term strategic and developmental benefits.

The two leaders held discussions at both restricted and delegation levels, reviewing the full spectrum of the relationship. They reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation in trade and investment, defence and security, agriculture and fertilisers, information technology, critical minerals, infrastructure, health, education, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

Prime Minister Modi noted that India is Jordan’s third-largest trading partner and proposed raising bilateral trade to 5 billion dollars over the next five years. He also suggested collaboration between Jordan’s digital payment system and India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Fertiliser cooperation featured prominently, with Jordan remaining a key supplier of phosphatic fertilisers to India.

King Abdullah II reiterated Jordan’s strong support for India’s fight against terrorism and condemned terrorism in all its forms. Prime Minister Modi, in turn, praised the King’s leadership in countering extremism and radicalisation. The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments, stressing the need to restore peace and stability in West Asia. Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed India’s support for efforts aimed at achieving a durable peace in the region.

The visit concluded with a banquet hosted by King Abdullah II in honour of the Prime Minister. Prime Minister Modi invited the Jordanian monarch to visit India, an invitation that was accepted.
