Prime Minister Narendra Modi and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz have held wide-ranging talks in Gandhinagar, pledging to give fresh momentum to the India–Germany strategic partnership. The two leaders met in one-to-one discussions followed by delegation-level talks, during which they reviewed cooperation across defence and security, trade and economic relations, technology and innovation, education, and green energy.
Both sides underlined that, as the world’s third- and fourth-largest economies, India and Germany are natural partners with shared interests in global stability and sustainable growth.According to officials, the discussions also focused on research and development, skill development, mobility, and strengthening people-to-people ties. The leaders reiterated their commitment to expanding collaboration in emerging and critical technologies, renewable energy and green hydrogen.
Following the talks, the two countries exchanged and adopted a series of memoranda of understanding covering defence and security, trade and the economy, science and technology, education and skilling, as well as cultural and sporting exchanges.
Indian officials said the agreements were expected to open up new opportunities for businesses and young people in both countries, while reinforcing the broader bilateral partnership at a time of shifting global economic and geopolitical challenges.
