A team of experts from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, will visit Punjab in February to engage with stakeholders and assess training needs aimed at enhancing leadership and managerial competencies among principals of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and Polytechnics, disclosed Punjab’s Technical Education and Industrial Training Minister Harjot Singh Bains. ‘This is part of a collaborative effort between the Punjab Technical Education Department and IIM-Ahmedabad. The program, titled the Management Development Program (MDP), is designed to elevate Punjab’s technical and vocational institutions into Centres of Excellence, he added.
Sharing details, he said that IIM-Ahmedabad, ranked first in the NIRF rankings and globally recognized for its management education, will spearhead this initiative with a focus on innovation, research, and academic excellence. Sharing details, Bains said that the MDP will include a five-day residential training program at the IIM-Ahmedabad campus for 30 principals from ITIs and Polytechnics, along with senior officials from the department. Faculty members from IIM-Ahmedabad, including Prof. Ambrish Dongre and Prof. Neharika Vohra, will conduct 20 interactive sessions to equip participants with dynamic leadership and managerial skills, he added.
Sharing details, he said that the training program, running from February 12 to 15, 2025, will emphasize strategic planning, budgeting, conflict resolution, team management, time management, and communication strategies. Additionally, it will encourage the exchange of knowledge and the adoption of best practices in vocational education and skill development, he added.
“This transformative program will help Punjab’s educational leaders meet evolving sector demands and foster collaborations with industry partners,” Bains added. The initiative aims to significantly enhance the technical education ecosystem in Punjab, promoting leadership capacity and strengthening opportunities for skill development,” he further said. The IIM-Ahmedabad team’s visit to Punjab will also focus on refining the program further based on stakeholder inputs, ensuring the initiative’s alignment with regional and institutional needs, he said.
