The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, on Friday approved the recruitment of 700 new Home Guard personnel and authorised their deployment in hospitals across the state. In decisions aimed at improving administrative efficiency and urban management, the Cabinet also approved the regularisation of panchayat secretaries who have completed two years of service under the Zila Parishad.
Industries Minister Harsh Vardhan Chauhan, briefing the media, said the Cabinet had agreed to shift the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) office from Shimla to Dharamshala to ease congestion in the state capital.
Ahead of the Panchayati Raj elections in December, the government also gave its nod to implement a fresh reservation roster.
In a move to tackle plastic and packaging waste at popular tourist destinations, the Cabinet has cleared the Deposit Refund Scheme 2025. Under the plan, consumers will pay a refundable deposit on items such as glass bottles, plastic containers, aluminium cans, and multilayered packaging. The deposit will be refunded when the used packaging is returned. The scheme will be rolled out initially on a pilot basis.
The Cabinet also reviewed pending hydroelectric power projects, directing the Power Department to expedite stalled proposals for early execution.
