Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu celebrated his 62nd birthday on Wednesday, with supporters, cabinet ministers and Congress legislators gathering at his official residence in Shimla to offer greetings.
A steady stream of well-wishers was seen arriving at Oak Over, the chief minister’s official residence, from early morning. Supporters from different parts of the state also travelled to Shimla to mark the occasion.
Sukhu cut a cake in the presence of his wife and Congress MLA Kamlesh Thakur. Videos from the celebrations showed the chief minister and his supporters performing the traditional nati dance at the residence.
Earlier in the day, Sukhu also took part in a marathon organised by secretariat employees, using the event to promote the message of health and fitness.
Speaking to reporters, the chief minister said Himachal Pradesh’s financial condition was improving and expressed confidence that the state’s economic position would see further recovery over the next four months.
He said the state budget presented by his government would help move Himachal towards self-reliance and had been designed to address the needs of all sections of society.
Sukhu also reflected on his personal journey, saying his life had been shaped by struggle and that he remained comfortable facing challenges.
The birthday event drew a festive atmosphere at Oak Over, underlining Mr Sukhu’s political standing within the ruling Congress in the hill state.
